Preservation rhinoplasty is a surgical concept of preserving and leaving as much anatomy untouched as possible during a rhinoplasty procedure. Preservation rhinoplasty is often considered by some as a single surgical technique. It is not. Another misconception is that preservation rhinoplasty is always performed using a closed approach. An open and closed approach is being used while performing preservation rhinoplasty. The advantageous focus of preservation rhinoplasty procedures is the preservation of the natural structural support system of the nose, and the influence of its alteration related to the outcome.
The concept of preserving tissue and support structures of the nose, has always been an integral part of rhinoplasty procedures of Dr Knoll. How “preserving” a rhinoplasty will be, depends on the bothersome features a patients wishes to correct. Some of Dr Knoll’s surgical techniques addresses, with minimal interruption of the nasal anatomy and its support structures, a combination of aesthetic issues. The swelling and recovery in these cases are less. Revision rhinoplasty procedures, or patients who have already undergone several rhinoplasties usually do not qualify to undergo a preservation rhinoplasty. Too much of the original, native anatomy has been altered by the surgeries.
Which kind of preservation rhinoplasty technique will be applied depends of the underlying anatomy and specific aesthetic features of a patients nose. There is no one size fits all, but certainly a better or worse option for a patients individual problem.
