High definition liposuction is a surgical concept and approach when performing liposuction. Over the past decades different liposuction devices and techniques have evolved. The changes have involved different cannulas, power and energy assisted devices. Whereas the traditionally thought process of liposuction was to just remove stubborn fat deposits, the concept of the sculpting process emerged and become more prevalent during the past decades. High definition liposuction considers the sculpting aspect of the underlying muscular anatomy. In some cases fat transfer from one area to another where volume is missing is performed to achieve better proportions.
The best candidates for high definition liposuction are patients, whose muscles are already well trained. With the liposuction procedure those defined muscle will become more visible and the underlying anatomy will surface and become more notable. Creating, for example, an “artificial” six-pack by liposuction and over grafting other areas with fat lead often to a notable, off appearing look. One has to keep in mind while planning the best surgical approach for a patient, that the body composition and physical fitness will undergo changes as we age. Best candidates are patients who are not planning extremes, who are already working out, who live a healthy lifestyle, and are looking at surgery to enhance their shape having realistic expectations.
High definition liposuction can, and sometimes needs to be combined with other body contouring procedures requiring skin excess removal.
Throughout the process of improving surgical techniques and devices the goals are always related to achieving better results, easier recovery, and patient safety.
