Some patients who have had a breast implant placed either for cosmetic or reconstructive reasons may wish to undergo a breast implant revision procedure, because the shape and the appearance of their breasts may have changed over time. The underlying causes and the patients goals will determine the required  revision procedure.

What to Expect from a Breast Implant Revision
A breast implant revision procedure described by our patients as being much less painful than their initial breast implant placement. A breast implant revision procedure is not described as very painful. Most patients describe a burning or pulling sensation, stating this recovery was easier than a primary (first) breast augmentation. The recovery time is for most patients shorter than after the initial placement of an implant. A breast implant exchange is performed under general anesthesia and may take anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on what is involved. During your procedure bacterial swabs, tissue and fluid specimens might be taken, to be send for lab analysis. In most of Dr Knoll’s breast implant exchange procedures no drains are required. The breast implant exchange is performed safely in an ambulatory setting. Depending on your general health, and your personal comfort, an overnight stay in the hospital might be preferred.After your breast implant revision procedure you may have some swelling and bruising, which will gradually subside within the following weeks. During that time Dr Knoll and her team will see you regularly in her Frankfurt office to accompany you during the wound healing process. Although most patients do not describe their post-operative course as very painful, you might be somewhat limited in your physical activities during your immediate post-operative period to ensure adequate wound healing. The success of a breast implant revision procedure is clearly dependent on the meticulous planning, a patient’s realistic expectations and compliance, aesthetic sense of your surgeon, and skilled surgical performance of your surgery.
