BROW LIFT OR FOREHEAD LIFT
A brow lift or forehead lift is performed to correct to the age related effects of the eyebrows and upper eyelids. A plethora of brow lift and forehead lift techniques are available. Choosing the right technique does not only depend on the degree of the eyebrow sagginess and upper eyelid fullness, but also on your hairline, and skin tightness. The brow lift methods differ regarding incision length and location, and sometimes the use of an endoscope. A youthful appearing eyebrow rests at, or slightly above, the supraorbital rim. Woman and men prefer different eyebrow aesthetics regarding shape and position. Male eyebrows have a more straight shape compared to women, where a laterally arched eyebrow is often preferred. But more important than „standardized“ beauty guidelines, are that a patient’s familiar eyebrow shape, will be maintained, or if desired slightly altered. Most patients are not seeking an alteration of their type, just as men are not seeking feminization of their eyelid region. The eyelid region which includes the eyebrows is crucial for the emotional perception by others. This concept was studies and our results were published in a peer review journal. The media caught up on it, and Oprah in her O-Magazine reported about „The Secret Language of Eyebrows“.
Subtle changes of eyebrow shape and position can sometimes be achieved with non-surgical methods. Neuromodulators, like Botolinumtoxin (Botox®) have expanded the treatment spectrum. However, their effect is transient and will gradually dissipate.

BROW LIFT – ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROCEDURES?
Absolutely, there are less invasive brow lift techniques that can be performed under local anesthesia, and some others that are more complex requiring general anesthesia and an endoscope. There are some important points to think about when making the decision to undergo a brow lift. First, the assessment of whether you are a good candidate needs to be determined by your surgeon. Second depending on your hairline, the future age and hormonal related changes of the hairline, the incision lines need to be determined. Some patients will be excellent candidates for an inconspicuous placement of their brow lift incisions, and some others will be not. In some patients the incisions of a brow lift can be placed in a way that the brow lift also reduces the receding hairline. A brow lift is often combined with other facial procedures, like an upper blepharoplasty or a facelift. Since the shape and the position of the eyebrows are important of the perceived age and emotions, Dr Knoll finds this to be an important area to discuss during your consultation.
WHAT TO EXPECT UNDERGOING a BROW LIFT PROCEDURE?
The success of a brow lift is clearly dependent on the meticulous planning, realistic expectations, aesthetic sense of your surgeon, and skilled surgical performance of your surgery. Patients are often concerned about visible, scarring. Careful and precise surgical technique by placing scars in natural light reflexion zones, or in areas of pigmentation changes, and natural creases will make scars of the ideal candidates with proper healing barely noticeable. Some brow lift procedures can be performed safely in an ambulatory setting, whereas other brow lifts are more complex or being performed in combination with a facelift procedure, require an overnight stay in the hospital. Based on your general health, length and type of the procedure and your personal comfort the length of an overnight stay in the hospital might vary. After your brow lift procedure you will have some swelling and bruising, which gradually subsides within the first days to weeks.
