BIA-SCC – Breast Implant Associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Recently the FDA has issued a warning about rare cases of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the capsule surrounding the breast implant. Although, this is not the usual occurrence site of SCC and its incidence is rare, patients who are experiencing any symptoms like breast/ axillary mass, unilateral swelling, pain, erythema, should consult with their physician. Data of ongoing research is still emerging. Patients who already have breast implants, do not need to change their routine medical care or follow-up.
