Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my practice of plastic surgery. My goals are to provide to you the most successful, natural and safe results from surgery. I bring a broad blend of experiences, to both understand your wishes, and give you optimal results.
My practice of Plastic Surgery is unique in Germany. Although being a German native, I trained exclusively in the United States for my entire plastic surgery residency; I also hold a German board certification in plastic surgery.
Prior to leaving to the US, I completed 1,5 years of maxillofacial surgery training in Germany. Then I completed my general surgery / plastic surgery residency at the noted center of excellence, Yale School of Medicine/ Yale-New Haven Hospital. Because of this experience, I can provide you with treatments that meet the highest level of plastic surgery care available worldwide.
Recognizing that excellent clinical work is tightly associated not only with the thorough analysis of the clinical and patient needs, but also with the critical analysis of results and the development of new techniques. Since basic science is fundamental to this, I performed also a two year fellowship in molecular biology (at Yale), investigating topics relevant for aesthetic and craniofacial surgery. Following residency, I continue to pursue investigation related to clinical and basic science in the areas of aesthetic and craniofacial surgery resulting in scientific publications, book chapters and presentations at leading professional meetings worldwide.
This is advantageous for you in that, through this rigorous training, I have gained the perspective on the many, oftentimes confusing and conflicting, claims made related to therapeutic innovations, in both surgery and cosmetics, which may help to guide you through selecting what treatment options are best for you.
My special areas of interest are aesthetic surgery, head & neck reconstruction and craniofacial surgery. I was fortunate of having trained and worked with some of the world leaders of plastic surgery and having received a broad spectrum training including all aspects of plastic surgery: aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, burns, hand surgery and craniofacial surgery. Our center at Yale developed new techniques which provided advances in care for breast surgery in body contouring.
I have developed great enthusiasm for primary and secondary rhinoplasties, oculoplastic surgery and craniofacial surgery, esp. craniosynostosis. To further focus on rhinoplasty surgery I elected additional training with Drs Jack Gunter and Rod Rohrich in Dallas, Texas. This is also true for aesthetic surgery of the face and body with Drs Sherrell Aston, Glenn Jelks, and Alan Matarasso in New York, NY. My training in craniofacial surgery and correction of craniosynostosis I have mainly received by Dr John Persing, New Haven CT and Dr Eric Arnaud, Paris, France (see Curriculum Vitae).
It is my goal to provide you with the best, safest and most recent advances in surgical care, whether this is related to aesthetic surgery or reconstructive surgery. Reconstructive surgery has some different requirements when compared to aesthetic plastic surgery. I wish to provide you with the best possible functional result, coordinated with the most aesthetic result achievable. As a patient ,or a parent dealing with a new diagnosis requiring surgery, decision making can be very stressful, impacting one’s own and/or other loved one’s lives. Therefore, I truly feel obliged to help you by explaining reasons for various treatments and the options you have after cancer or trauma diagnoses which may benefit from reconstructive surgery. This is best achieved by collaborating together with you and your physicians in order to obtain the best treatment plan.
In aesthetic surgery, I wish to optimize your appearance to achieve an aesthetically balanced result. My personal philosophy in aesthetic surgery is that most people would rather see a natural, classically beautiful result, rather than an overdone, “operated” look. This requires a thorough understanding of aesthetic relations and/or the anatomical/pathologic changes associated with aging, and what methods are most likely to provide a true and long lasting improvement. This may require a combination of surgical and non surgical techniques, which should be based on your expectations, interests, health, and time commitments. Decision making may require some extended effort, something I am happy to assist you with, and something I enjoy.
I am also happy to provide you with the necessary evaluations and letters, that you may require at your home country if you live outside from Germany.
